Gessica Sakamoto Martini holds a BSc degree in Natural Sciences from the University of Turin (Italy) and an MSc in Evolutionary Biology from the University of Bologna (Italy). She moved to Durham (UK) to pursue a PhD in Evolutionary Anthropology at Durham University, where she studied the evolution of fairytales, particularly Cinderella. Upon completing her PhD, she took part in several creative writing courses and workshops, focusing on the use of fairy tales, surrealism, and the absurd in both short fiction and prose poetry. She is currently working on her first collection of prose poems.

Gessica is the Editor-in-Chief of Orion’s Belt, a magazine of science fiction and fantasy. 

She currently lives in Italy with her husband Takashi and their two cats, Buntaro and Jiji.
